Keeping children engaged, active, and productive with fun activities is a tough ask at times, but the Prince Geroge’s County Memorial Library System is here with a plan! The Library has partnered with the fantastic team at FutureMakers to provide families in Prince George’s County with free, at-home STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) projects that can be picked up from local libraries via Curbside Service.
With STEM-2-Go kits, children will have fun learning scientific principles such as pneumatics, air pressure, electronic circuits, energy, and more. Of course, the project design team has made sure to leave plenty of room for personal creativity and expression in each project. The STEM-2-Go kits are the perfect blend of art and science to keep any curious mind engaged for an afternoon of exploration and discovery. The projects’ instructions are in English and Spanish and are designed to be intuitive and easy to read.
As part of the Library regularly scheduled STEM at Home, PGCMLS has scheduled monthly virtual “lab sessions” this Spring to provide supplementary support and information on every kit being offered. These virtual programs take place on the 2nd Friday of March, April, and May.
New Monster Mouth STEM-2-Go kits are available beginning Thursday, April 1, and are available at all open PGCMLS branches via Curbside Service. The kits are being distributed on a first-come-first-served basis as there are a limited number of kits available at each branch. There is a limit of two kits for families with more than one child.
Please ask library staff if any kits are available when you pick up your materials. New shipments will arrive at the beginning of each month.
Get featured on this page! Please email a photo of your completed kit to email@example.com with the subject line STEM-2-Go!
STEM activities can have a lasting impact on a learner’s autonomy and self-esteem. What did you think of the STEM kit? Let us know here!
