Prince George’s County Memorial Library System Operating Status Changes

Largo, MD – The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS), per instructions from the County Health Department, announced today that all library programs, outreach events, meeting room activities, and passport services will be suspended indefinitely (effective Friday, March 13, 2020). Beginning on Monday, March 16, 2020, the Library will be closed until further notice. The Library and County Government partners are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Prince Georgians during the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency. The decision to reopen the Library will be made in consultation with the County Health Department and will be announced via email, pgcmls.info, and social media.

Customers will be able to access all of the Library’s online resources, including ebooks, audiobooks, streaming movies and music, educational tools, and databases. Library staff will be available to answer questions on the Library’s website and via social media. Book-drops will be locked and fines incurred (during the closure only) will be waived.

The Library encourages high risk individuals to observe the precautions recommended below by the County Health Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). High risk individuals are older adults and people who have chronic medical conditions like diabetes, heart, lung and kidney disease, or are immunocompromised.

Recommendations for high risk individuals:

  1. Stay at home as much as you can
  2. Avoid large crowds
  3. If you have to go out in public, you should keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact, and wash your hands often
  4. Make sure you have access to several weeks of medications and supplies in case you need to stay home for prolonged periods of time

The Prince George’s County Government has a coordinated effort among all agencies to address the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. This effort is being spearheaded by the Health Department, and all agencies are taking the appropriate steps to keep Prince Georgians safe and healthy.
