Folk Life and Faraway Places Film Series - Wattstax Thursday, January 8, 2015 - 2:00pm

Wattstax  is a documentary film by Mel Stuart that focused on the 1972 Wattstax music festival and the African American community of Watts in Los Angeles, California. But Wattstax is more than a concert film. It also captures a heady moment in the mid-1970s, during the "black-is-beautiful" African-American movement, when Los Angeles's black community came together just seven years after the Watts riots to celebrate its survival and a renewed hope in its future.

An *R Rating indicates that viewers under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Saturday Surfers - a computer drop-in lab Saturday, February 28, 2015 - 10:00am

Saturday Surfers - formerly known as the Silver Surfers - meet every Saturday morning from 10AM till noon.  Practice basic computer skills, bring your questions and a friend! A volunteer will be available to help you learn. This is a drop-in class - no registration required. There is no age requirement and no one will be turned away, but space is available on a first come first serve basis.
