Family Event

June 7, at 2 pm

Early Television in the 1920s

At the 1939 New York City World's Fair, the world was amazed to witness sound and images broadcasted to a device called television.  But television had been being worked on for over ten years at that point.  In the late 1920s local inventor C. Francis Jenkins established a television station in Wheaton, MD. A handful of people watched his experimental broadcasts. Picture tubes were still under development at the time so Jenkins and others created moving images using motor-driven spinning discs with a spiral of punched holes. National Capital Radio & Television Museum Director Brian Belanger will discuss that era and demonstrate what viewers would have seen.   Please be sure to join us for another informative program from the Radio and Television Museum.
