Hyattsville, MD-The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System becomes the state’s first library system and the first in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, to launch Freegal, the Sony Music Catalog of thousands of artists from its website www.pgcmls.info [1]. The Library System will allow registered cardholders to download three (3) songs weekly from the Sony Music tracks at no cost.
Valerie Piechocki, Chief of Materials Management exclaimed, “We have been waiting a long time for a service that delivers great music, is simple to use and compatible with multiple devices. One of the strengths of the Freegal service is the diversity of music genres including Jazz, Classical, Hip-Hop, R&B and Rock. Our goal is to use forward-thinking technologies to assist in reaching all audiences.”
“Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalog, and we are really excited to partner with them on this,” said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas, a library technology provider. “A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about its resources. More than anything that is the reason for the service.”
