Prince George’s County Memorial Library System Names Five Area Managers
HYATTSVILLE, Md.—The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) named five new area managers. They are:
Blane Halliday, Bowie area manager, received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Youngstown State University and a Master of Library Science degree from Kent State University. Having worked in public libraries for more than 15 years, Halliday brings a wide range of professional experience to PGCMLS, including work for large urban systems, small town libraries as well as sprawling suburban systems. He has worked in the capacity of a reference librarian, subject department head, internal department supervisor and branch manager.
Halliday’s professional interests include non-print media, intellectual freedom, equal access for all library patrons and collection development. He has served on the American Library Association’s Video Roundtable Notable Videos for Adults committee and is a graduate of the State Library of Florida’s Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute.
Luis Labra, South Bowie area manager, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1988. Labra began his library career working as a library page at the Bladensburg library. After college, he was hired as a library associate at the Beltsville library and while working there attended Catholic University and obtained a Master in Library Science degree in 1993. Labra has worked as a librarian at the New Carrollton Branch and an assistant branch manager with the Fairfax County Library system. In 1997 he became a branch manager in the Alexandria Library System where he remained until 2011 when he returned to PGCMLS as a branch manager at the Bowie Branch Library.
Kelley Perkins, Oxen Hill area manager, earned her Master in Library Science degree from the University of Maryland in 2000. Her entire career as a librarian has been with PGCMLS. She worked in children services for 20 years and as a manager of mid-sized and large branches for almost six years.
Catherine Hollerbach, Hyattsville area manager, comes to PGCMLS with 22 years of experience working at the Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) system. She was most recently the branch manager of the Provinces Branch Library in Severn, Md. Her most recent achievements include creating a Military Family Resource Center at the Provinces Branch, which included a collection of print and electronic resources to serve the military personnel at Fort Meade and the influx of patrons from the federal BRAC program. Hollerbach has a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism/public relations and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland. She is a member of Maryland’s Library Associate Training Institute Oversight Committee.
Victoria L. Johnson, Spauldings area manager, received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University and her Master of Library Science degree from Catholic University. She has worked for the PGCMLS for more than 25 years. She began her career as a library associate at the Oxen Hill branch in the children’s department. She has since worked at Glenarden, Bladensburg, New Carrollton and now the Spauldings branch. In the past, she has served as president of the former PGCMLS Staff Association, a shop steward and a member of various committees including the strategic planning committee.
