Don't Read with Caution
Celebrate the Freedom to Read!
Banned Books Week
Nickel and Dimed. . . Crank . . . Brave New World. . . Twilight... The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian... And Tango Makes Three...
You might have read or heard of the books listed above. I have read mostly all of them and enjoyed reading them but there are others who didn't find much pleasure in reading them and challenged to have them removed from schools and libraries. The books listed are included in the list for the Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2010.
What's your favorite book? Chances are good that someone has tried to ban it. Every year, there are hundreds of attempts to remove books from schools and libraries. Every year libraries across the country put together displays to remind everyone that libraries are a place where people are free to make their own decisions about what they read. Celebrate YOUR freedom to read during Banned Books Week, September 25 to October 2, 2011. For more information, visit American Library Association website.
Check out or re-read a favorite banned book.
