Independent Film Series - A Cultural Exchange
Monday, January 27, 2014 - 7:00pm
Independent Film Series - a Cultural Exchange; "Vegucated" (2010), 77 min.; Monday, January 27 at 7 pm; Hyattsville Branch Library; "Vegucated" is a feature-length documentary, part sociological experiment and part adventure comedy. Lured by true stories of weight lost and health regained, three meat-eating and cheese-eating New Yorkers agree to stay on a vegan diet for six weeks. Eventually they learn about the hidden sides of animal agriculture, leading them to expose an industry they supported just weeks before. This entertaining documentary highlights the sometimes comic evolution of three people who share one journey. The film earned five awards, including the Best Documentary in the Toronto Film Festival - 2011. Since 2011, the Hyattsville Branch Library - in partnership with locally-based Creative Edge Studio Collaborative - has been screening independently produced films from the library audio visual collection. The evenings conclude with a discussion facilitated by local Hyattsville filmmaker, Miriam Machado-Jones.
