One Maryland One Book 2012 Invitation for Book Discussions

Maryland Center for the Book (MCFB), a program of the Maryland Humanities Council, will continue the statewide community reading program called One Maryland/One Book. The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway is the selection for One Maryland One Book 2012.

The title refers to the true story of a cellist who played Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor once a day for 22 days in the street, to honor the 22 victims who died in a mortar attack while waiting in a bread line. It brilliantly explores how war can change one’s definition of humanity, how music affects our emotional endurance, and how a romance with the rituals of daily life can itself be a form of resistance.
