Position Title: IT Specialist  

Location: Based out of the Central Services Facility, 9601 Capital Lane, Largo, Maryland.  A Library car is provided during work hours to provide service throughout Prince George’s County.

Hours: Full Time (40 hours/week), Monday - Friday

Salary: $45,921 - $58,000 DOQ

Examples of Duties: Configures and optimizes network servers and switches. Monitors network capacity and performance and diagnoses and resolves network problems. Develops network backup and recovery procedures. Develops and implements network security procedures and tools. Installs, configures and maintains database management systems. Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems with the design and delivery of applications and services. Manages the installation and integration of system fixes, updates and enhancements. Ensures systems’ availability, functionality, integrity and efficiency. Evaluates new servers and application software technologies. Integrates PC hardware and software components. Writes and maintains program documentation. Provides technical support for internal and external clients. May work shifts to cover schedules and respond to night and weekend emergency calls. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.

Qualifications/Requirements: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, network certification and three years of network and end user support experience or the equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Unix (or Solaris or Linux) and Windows in a networked environment. Ability to install hardware and software and perform general maintenance and repair of computer hardware. Knowledge of network systems design, development, testing, installation, operations, management, maintenance and security concepts and network architecture and protocols. Knowledge of database management concepts, principles and methodologies. Knowledge of operating system software principles and methods, IT security principles and methods, performance management and measurement methods, systems testing and evaluation principles and methods and troubleshooting procedures and tools. Knowledge of standard Internet protocols, server operations, operating systems, scripting tools and security principles and protocols. Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with diverse individuals and groups. Skill in oral and written communications. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment and work independently and in a team environment. Availability to drive to various locations and work nights and weekends and be on call, if needed. Work involves extensive sitting, reaching, stooping, bending and lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds and use of computer, telephone and office equipment.

Necessary Special Requirement: Class C driver’s license in good standing.
