Position Title: IT Specialist (ILS)
Location: Based out of the Library’s Central Services Facility, 9601 Capital Lane, Largo, Maryland. A Library car is provided during work hours to provide service throughout Prince George’s County.
Hours: Full Time (40 hours/week), Monday - Friday
Salary: $47,069 - $59,000 DOQ

Examples of Duties: Responsible for the administration of Polaris, the Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS). Polaris is the primary business software for the Library, managing all library-related activities including acquisitions, cataloging and circulation of materials, such as inventory management and control, billing, customer records, online catalog and reports. Works with staff to identify, test and implement ILS policies. Responds to and troubleshoots problems. Tests and installs upgrades, keeps current on latest enhancements to software, implements systems modifications and performs daily tasks such as backup. Develops and maintains procedure manuals; creates and updates user documentation. Performs data mining, extracting data using custom Application Programming Interface (API) language. Works as part of a team on ILS and non-ILS installation and customization projects. Keeps appropriate vendor manuals and documentation current. Develops database requirements and complex custom reports using databases such as Microsoft SQL, MS Access and Excel. Provides technical support for internal and external clients. May work shifts to cover schedules and respond to night and weekend emergency calls. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.
Qualifications/Requirements: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience with Windows operating systems, Windows Server 2008, Active Directory, PHP, VBScript and web site management, or the equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with relational database and database applications such as Microsoft SQL and MS Access 2003 within an internet/intranet environment. Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with diverse individuals and groups. Skill in oral and written communications. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment, work independently and in a team environment, work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Availability to drive to various locations and work nights and weekends and be on call, if needed. Familiarity with an ILS preferred. Work involves extensive sitting, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, lifting and grasping; moving objects up to 25 pounds frequently and heavier objects occasionally; and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
Necessary Special Requirement: Class C driver’s license in good standing.
