Homework Resources

These databases are good sources of information to help you with your homework. Sometimes material that you find on the Internet is not correct. Anyone can put information on the Internet, but they don't always get it right! The facts in these databases have been carefully collected and checked for accuracy. Often this material comes directly from printed books.  If you are using a computer outside of the library, you will have to sign in with your library card to use the databases.

Biography Resource Center
Learn about famous people from around the world.

BookFlix
Preschoolers through 3rd graders can read along with or listen to and watch videos of many all-time favorite picture books. Many titles are available in Spanish. (Available only in library branches at this time.)

CultureGrams
Look up information about countries and states. Learn about the history, government, culture, geography, and important people of many places. See maps, flags, and recipes from around the world. The “Kids Edition” is for upper elementary grades.

Facts for Learning
Facts for students in grades 2 through 5 (you can set the grade level). Resources include the Weekly Reader and other magazines, the World Almanac for Kids, a dictionary, and an atlas. You can look up facts by topic, such as Animals, Health and Math. Learn how to use the library by clicking on “Library & Research Skills.”

History Resource Center: U.S.
Look up magazine articles, online reference sources, and primary sources on topics related to United States and World history. Source citations are included to help you with your bibliography. Choose a period from the timeline and limit by Lexile reading level.

Grolier Online Passport
Includes Lands and Peoples (an encyclopedia of countries, cultures and geography), The New Book of Knowledge (a general encyclopedia for grades 3 and up), The New Book of Popular Science (with science projects, articles, news, biographies and more) and La Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre (a Spanish Language general encyclopedia).

Kids InfoBits
Packed with eye-popping charts, graphs, maps and searchable images, this database is especially for beginning researchers in Kindergarten through Grade 5.  Browse through the topics or search elementary reference sources and magazines.

Science Resource Center
Science information for middle school and up. Includes science articles, experiments, biographies of scientists, and science tools.

World Atlas
Reproducible maps, including political, outline, elevation, and statistical maps. Rank and compare states, provinces and countries.

World Book Encyclopedia Online
General encyclopedia. Includes Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos (click on Spanish Language Encyclopedia at bottom of opening page), Today in History, student activities, an atlas and a dictionary.
