Why can I not access Heritage Quest from a remote location?
Here are some of the reasons that you may have trouble accessing
the Hertiage Quest database.
If you are using the AOL browser - The AOL browser has
some interactivity issues with all Proquest Databases. Use
another browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.
If you are using Internet Explorer 6.0 version make sure
that the privacy setting is "Low". (This can be
done by going to Tools > Options > Privacy > Low
If you are using a personal firewall or Norton Antivirus
software, there have been some interactivity problems.
Turn off these services when using Proquest Databases.
When I try to login to ProQuest, I immediately see
this message: "Your session has been timed out".
Why?
Please ensure that your Web browser is configured to accept
all cookies. Additionally, security software such as Fortress,
Fool Proof, and others can disable cookies, even though the
browser is set to accept all cookies. Additionally, ensure
that the system date is correct.
Make sure that your Web browser is configured to accept
all cookies.
Check that your security software (programs such as Fortress,
Fool Proof, Norton Security, and others) is configured to
permit a connection to ProQuest. These applications can disable
cookies even if the browser is set to accept all cookies.
Finally, make sure that the system date on your computer
is correct.
When I try to connect to ProQuest, I get the following
error message: "JavaScript Error: http://proquest.bellhowell.infolearning.com/pqdweb,line
60: document.layers ["rightlayer"] has no properties".
You should be able to eliminate this Javascript error by
selecting Enable style sheets in the Advanced properties section
in Netscape®.
My ProQuest session is timing out even though I'm actively
searching. I am also getting search results and articles that
have nothing to do with the search I performed. Why?
This is generally caused when a proxy or cache server
is set to cache pages. Please check to see if your system
is configured to cache pages. If it is you will need to set
your proxy or cache server to not cache any pages from the
following: proquest.com umi.com bellhowell.infolearning.com
While searching in ProQuest®, I see error messages.
Why?
The error message - "The server doesn't know how to
handle this request." "Your browser has sent a message
the server cannot understand." are common messages when
unsupported/outdated Web browsers are used to view ProQuest®.
ProQuest is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer version
5.5+, or Netscape 6.02+ The very minimum version of Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.01 or Netscape Navigator 4.75 can be used.
